Compressed-air leak checklist

Leaks can waste up to 30% of compressor output. Run this checklist during a non-production shift.

16 Sept 20263 minValid until 3 Oct 2027

Before you start

Stop production but keep the compressor running.

Pressure-decay test

Time how long the receiver takes to drop from working pressure to half. A fast drop means significant leakage.

Usual suspects

  • Quick couplings and hoses
  • Condensate drains
  • Filter-regulators
  • Worn pneumatic tools

Suggested actions

  • Run a pressure-decay test while the line is stopped
  • Tag and list every leak found
  • Lower compressor set pressure to the real minimum required

Possible causes

  • Leaks at fittings, hoses and drains

Required documents

  • Compressor specification and running hours

Warnings

  • Never touch a high-pressure air leak with your hand
